Macquarie University and Bond University have emerged as the undefeated teams on day one of the second round of the Aon Uni 7s Series at Macquarie University Playing Fields on Saturday.
Griffith University will take on Bond University and Macquarie University will play The University of Queensland in the gold medal semi finals.
Two matches finished in thrilling draws across the day, highlighting the tight nature of the competition.
The remaining teams will fight hard for the fifth spot on the ladder with University of Tasmania taking on The University of Adelaide and University of New England playing University of Canberra in the fifth place play offs.
Finals day will kick off Sunday at 10:40am from Macquarie University Playing Fields with all matches to be streamed LIVE on rugby.com.au.
Australian University Sport CEO, Don Knapp said: "The second round of the Series in Sydney follows a resounding start in Launceston, with the eight universities mostly on an even playing field."
"While it’s too early to make a call on which university will take the inaugural title, the talent we are seeing from these student-athletes is only a glimpse of the depth of sporting talent across Australian universities."
Qantas Australian Women’s Seven Head Coach Tim Walsh said: "There was a huge amount of intensity today, it felt like the Final Day in Launceston."
"The teams were scoring lots of tries, making plenty of tackles and there were good runs through the middle. It was a really good day of rugby."
"Tomorrow they’ve just got to come out ready to go from that first minute. Day two is the most important day, it makes or breaks the tournament."
Bond University and Aussie 7s player Brooke Walker said: "We definitely lifted the platform from the last tournament, just honed in on a few areas defensively which got us a better result."
"We’re taking on Griffith tomorrow and they’re a very physical team and they definitely turned up on Day One with Alysia [Lefau-Fakaosilea] out there."
"I think if we can shut her down early we’ll give ourselves the best chance."
