RMIT secures three-peat with the 2017 Southern University Games Championship

The 2017 Southern University Games has come to a close, with RMIT University dominating the gold medals to take out the overall university champion and the John Campbell trophy.

The overall results were announced at The Gallery at Deakin University – Waterfront in front of a 100 strong crowd, following four days of sporting competition in Geelong.

Deakin University claimed the per capita title, alongside La Trobe University claiming the Spirit of the Games title.

Southern University Games Project Manager Kylie Bloodworth was pleased with the outcome of this year’s Southern University Games.

“All of the student-athletes played well and it’s definitely great to see a competitive edge partnered with sportsmanship across the teams,” said Ms Bloodworth.

“We hope to see similarly strong results at the upcoming Australian University Games held on Gold Coast later this year.”

Australian University Sport CEO Don Knapp is excited to see the competition succeed in Geelong.

“Regional university sporting events provide student-athletes with the opportunity to pursue a dual education and sport pathway, which results in both tertiary qualifications and sport participation at all levels of sport across Australia,” Mr. Knapp said.
